Related Songs

Identifying a song for a performance can be problematic in some cases where there are different composers for a song. A song may have lyrics translated into another language by a different lyricist. Another case is where there are simply a different set of lyrics in the same language by a different lyricist. Or, a previously instrumental version of a song may have lyrics added. The music may or may not retain the same title with the changed or added lyrics.

A group of related songs must have one root song. A song may not be related to more than one root or a song that is related to another song and not the root.

Using the Related Song window, two songs can be linked together in the song window to display these conditions. Press the Related Song button on the Songs window to bring up the Related Song window after selecting the root song for the relation in the Songs window.

 

Related Song window

Fields:

Song This is a song lookup field. Use this field to find a song to add as a relation to the root song.
Notes There are two instance of a notes field on this window. In both cases, the field is read only and will display the notes entered for the song as entered in the Songs window. The upper notes field will display the notes for the song being "looked up".
Rel. Type (popup menu) This popup menu is used to select the type of variation for the related song. Variation types can be added or removed from the popup using the Set Popups menu. This menu is only visible when there is a song in the Song field that is eligible for adding as a relation. For instance, if you lookup an already related song in the Song field, the popup menu will not display.

Buttons:

Use this button to add the song in the lookup field to the root song.
Use this button to remove the song selected in the related song list as a related song to the root. This button is only visible when there is a song in the Song field that is eligible for adding as a relation.
Close Close the Related Song window and return to the Songs window. This button is only visible when there is a song selected in the related songs list to the right of the button.
