This recording was only published on the English Columbia label. It is quite rare and has Paul Gonsalves playing guitar and sounding much like Teddy Bunn.
Stanley Dance was in attendance at the session and recollected the following: "Jo Jones was furious at Bell and Gonsalves for arriving late to the session and retaliated by drumming louder and louder throughout the session. We would turn the volume down on him in the control room, but he would listen to the playbacks and go out and drum even louder, to the great discomfort of the other musicians in the small studio."

Each of the two concerts on April 22-23 were in two parts. The first part was by the George Wein Newport Jazz Festival All-Stars; the second part was by the Buck Clayton All-Stars. The Buck Clayton concert on the 22nd was at 7:00-8:30 pm; his portion of the concert on the 23rd was from 2:00-3:30am! The LP issues of "Robbins' Nest" are edited by deleting a Clayton solo. "I Get A Kick Out Of You" is performed exclusively with Thompson and the rhythm section. "Swinging At The Copper Rail" is mistitled as "Swinging At The Camarillo" on all of the LP issues. There are probably 3-4 unissued tunes from the first concert.

The session was recorded during the period May 15-16. The numbers appearing as matrix numbers in this session are not actually matrix, but are a code to show the actual sequence of the songs recorded during the session and the number of Takes. The first number is the sequence and the second number list the Takes. Vogue assigned matrix numbers to two of the songs, Passport To Paradise (8984) and Tangerine (8985) which suggests that these two were probably issued as 78's or 45's.
