"She was accompanied by the 30-piece John Lewis Orchestra and a small ensemble that varied from a single guitar to seven men. With the large orchestra, Miss Carroll devoted herself to show tunes by Rodgers and Hart, Harold Arlen, George Gershwin, Noel Coward, and Marc Blitzstein. She chose her songs well, but the freshest section of her program came in her appearance with the group when she sang three of the songs of urban Negro life of Oscar Brown, Jr. and two folk-tinged selections, one of which came from the musical "Tenderloin."
